Hwei Build Guide

Hwei Build Guide

Overview

Hwei is the champion with the single most abilities in the game, thanks to each of his base abilities giving him access to another set of abilities. The huge arsenal of spells makes him one of the most versatile champions in the game not just on a game-to-game basis but on a fight-to-fight basis, where he can bring an entirely new set of spells to the fray on each engagement. Keys to Remember About Hwei

  1. With so many abilities at your disposal, it can be overwhelming at first to play Hwei, but the more you play, the more the gap between your knowledge and your opponent's knowledge will increase. Most people you play against will never learn the full extent of Hwei's capabilities!

  2. He has a ton of skill shots, which means a ton of damage so long as you manage to land everything -- the one ability that is easy to land, though, is his ultimate. Try to sync it with an ally's CC to maximize the damage output!

Strengths

Spiraling Despair [R] is an extremely strong AoE ability, which makes him very deadly in team fights, especially if he’s able to pair it with AoE CC from an ally. Hwei also has a strong laning phase thanks to his ability to constantly rain damage on his enemies, including some spells that hit at very long ranges. This makes it easy for him to control lane by poking and whittling down enemies, so long as he’s able to hit said abilities. Though, even if he misses, he has access to so many spells that it can be difficult for enemies to track what he does or doesn’t have left in his arsenal.

Weaknesses

The downside to having so many abilities is that it’s going to take that much longer for players to learn how to play Hwei, let alone master him. He has a ton of spells in his kit, but because they’re skillshots, you can just easily blow through your mana reserves before you’re ever in a position to actually go for kills. Hwei’s ultimate is also a fairly slow ability, which means enemies can maneuver out of it quickly if you just throw it haphazardly -- this is compounded against mobile champions, who he will already struggle a bit with as he’s greatly lacking in mobility himself.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: You’ll have a range advantage over most champions in the game and should be able to throw spells at them constantly to poke them away from you. Use that pressure to shove your wave and then try to make plays on the map (or kill your laner if you chunk them enough).

  2. Mid Game: Hwei’s team fighting is quite good thanks to so many of his spells being AoE abilities. Make sure you’re grouping whenever possible for fights and skirmishes.

  3. Late Game: Same as mid game. Your ultimate especially will do a lot of damage at this point of the game, so always be on peripherals of the enemy range to throw spells at them.
