How to Play Ryze Ziggs Duo: TFT Set 16

How to Play Ryze Ziggs Duo: TFT Set 16

Overview

After a long month of dinosaurs and Dianas, we've completely shifted away from what was previously strong. Games feature strong early boards and players who are looking to cap around different legendaries than previously, with Ziggs being the clear winner after the nerfs to other comps. Below is the easiest variant of the Ziggs and Ryze board that has taken the ladder by storm in the opening days of the patch!

When to Play

  • You have a Yordle opener

  • You have a win streak opener

  • You are sick of being outcapped by other people and just want to to play towards the strongest board

How to Play

  • The most difficult part of this comp is unlocking Kennen, which means the easiest way to play this comp is from a Yordle opener as you hold other units on the bench. You can't do that every game, though, so what you need to do is hold Yordles, Ionians, and Defenders on your bench in Stage 3 -- you can slap them onto your board during the neutral round to unlock Kennen there without needing to playing a bad board.

  • Everything else is an econ and HP check -- your whole goal is to go to level 9 by Stage 5-7, so you can unlock Ryze and Kennen for the 6-1 fight. You can delay this interval if you have the HP to spare and if you're uncontested. You must play a board on level 9 for one turn before you unlock Ryze and Ziggs -- it's an extremely weak turn for you!

  • You itemize whichever unit you hit first between Ryze and Ziggs -- it's not worth looking for "true BiS" for them -- you can just make any AP items as long as you have magic shred and ant-heal. More important than itemizing the second carry is to itemize your main tank, which can be either Wukong or Taric. Those are the most important places to spend your items. After that, you can start giving items to your other carry and to Sett.

  • There are many tempos you can follow for this, but below is the most common tempo. You can read more in depth about leveling tempos here.

Stage

Level

2-1

Buy XP to hit Level 4 if you can play a strong board to win early, otherwise focus on your econ

2-5

Level 5. Stay Level 4 if you cannot win fights.

3-2

Level 6

3-5 or 4-1

Level 7

4-2

Level 8 -- you may need to roll a bit here to stabilize, though you are typically going to need to play a different comp if you have to roll here.

4-7

Level 9. Make sure you tech in 4 regions for Ryze and equip a Yordle or Zaun with 3 items for Ziggs.

5-1 or 5-2

Level 9 (if not earlier)

Late Stage 5 and Stage 6

If you are not 9 by this point, then you either have a lot of HP to spare or you are dead.
