Overview
Opening with AP items means you can lean towards Karma, Yuumi, or Star Guardians if you are someone who prefers pushing levels and playing around strong 4 and 5 cost units. Karma is currently the premier comp according to the stats, and one of the reasons it triumphs over the other two AP comps is that the late game cap is stronger thanks to Gwen being one of the best units in the game right now -- especially if you're able to find a Sniper's Focus for her.
When to Play
You're looking to hit Lucian and Aatrox early game as indicators to lean this way. You can pair them with 1 Sorcerer (Lux or Kenne) and 1 Juggernaut for your first 4 units and then try to slot in Mech whenever you hit it. After that, you want to scale up Sorcs.

How to Play
This is a comp that aims to play the strongest possible board early on and rush to level 8 on 4-2 before rolling down. At level 8, your goal is to find one copy of Karma and one copy of Jarvan to try and stabilize.
Before Jarvan2, you can look to play around Swain2 as your primary tank and only move mana generation items such as Protector's Vow onto Jarvan.
You should aim to itemize Jarvan with mana generation items moreso than traditional tank items.
You can also carry Ahri2 before you hit Karma, though Karma one will have more value against weaker opponents because of her ability hitting more targets.
Sorcerers win fights by getting kills -- this means you want to align your strong units against their weak units to get the first kills as soon as possible to trigger the Sorcrerer effect.
It's important to place Jarvan on the same side as the enemy damage dealers.
This comp spikes very hard with Gwen (especially Gwen2) -- hitting even one Gwen early can stabilize you on Stage 4. Gwen is extremely good with Sniper's Focus -- so much so that you can justify pivoting your line entirely towards Sorcerers if you hit this item.
