Keys to Remember About Rengar
Your whole job as Rengar is to assassinate isolated targets. Bad Rengar players will end the game without fighting very much. Good Rengar players will end the game fighting too much. But the best Rengar players will fight exactly enough -- take what the enemy gives you (and in most ELO brackets, they will give you a lot).
Bushes are your friend! Entering and re-entering them, and fighting near them, are going to make Rengar much, much stronger.
Strengths
If you need someone dead, then you aren’t going to find many champions better at the job than Rengar. Unseen Predator [P] allows him to have kill potential on any carry that is lazy enough to walk near a bush with him in the game, as he can easily kill enemies with just Savagery [Q] once he gets enough items online. There’s not much enemies can do if you jump from a bush and then re-enter the bush to pounce on them again. And even if they play carefully, Thrill of the Hunt [R] means Rengar can jump on anyone at any time -- this often forces enemy teams to clump up, but all it takes is one moment without defenses for Rengar to find a way onto the backline to assassinate an unsuspecting target. And, honestly, even if they play correctly, Rengar can still often find kills thanks to Battle Roar [W] allowing him to break CC.
Weaknesses
His early gank potential is weak because it’s difficult to gain access to lanes to leap from if he’s coming for a gank -- this can be circumvented with lane ganks, and Ebola Strike [E] still gives him some ranged CC, but he really wants level 6 to be able to guarantee the damage. Otherwise, teams at this point in League of Legends’ lifespan should know how to play against a Rengar -- because he gives an indicator that alerts them to his approach, all they need to do is stick together to deter him. His window to assassinate is quite small, and if he can’t finish the job in that span, then he’s squishy enough to become the prey himself.
Game Plan
Early Game: You should focus on clearing your jungle, but you do have some opportunities for ganks if enemies are pushed up too far.
Mid Game: You should constantly be hunting for kills at this point -- every time your ultimate is up, you should be looking to use it. Rengar wants to snowball the game.
Late Game: It’ll be harder to find isolated targets, but if you do find them, then you should have more than enough damage to delete them. Your success relies heavily on your ability to find picks,
