Keys to Remember About Renekton

  1. Renekton is an early game bully that can catch opponents off guard depending on how he chooses to use his fury to empower his abilities -- he's even capable of winning 1v2 fights thanks to the sustain on his Q. He definitely needs to win early if he wants to consistently win games on his own merit.

  2. If you're someone who backs off at the first sign of trouble, then Renekton is not the champion for you. You need to be willing to fight at basically all times. You'll also need to be good at weaving auto-attacks in between his abilities to generate fury.

Strengths

Renekton is a champion with a surprising amount of flexibility thanks to his abilities offering different effects if his Fury is above 50 for his abilities -- being able to gain an empowered heal on Cull of the Meek [Q], for example, can be a huge boon in lane phase if you are able to consistently sustain yourself up while trading with your opponent. Being able to juggle this between a longer stun on Ruthless Predator [W] or shred on Slice and Dice [E] is going to be the difference between a good Renekton and a great one. Being able to correctly utilize your fury is the bulk of his learning curve, but once it’s mastered, he’s a champion with a great early and mid game especially and can be used to snowball games in your favor.

Weaknesses

While champions without mana are typically able to win out against mana-based counterparts over an extended period of time, Renekton is still a champion that’s tied to his cooldowns and fury stacks. If he’s caught out without enough fury stacked, or if he has already committed his abilities to a trade, he can feel helpless in the window after that when enemies are able to counter-engage on him. This becomes more prominent as the game goes on, as his damage often won’t scale enough to properly kill priority targets (let alone tanks), which means he’s under some pressure to perform well early.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: The whole point of picking Renekton is to try and win lane early so you can snowball the lead into early objectives (dragon stacking, for example) -- you need to be up in your opponent’s face while deflecting any ganks thrown at you.

  2. Mid Game: You should have good side lane pressure at this point -- the goal is to shove in the wave and rotate to help your team on objectives or fights. The more you fight at this phase, the better for you!

  3. Late Game: The empowered stun is your best tool at this phase of the game -- unless you can get a big flank on their backline, it may be easier to peel back and help your carries.
