Amumu Build Guide

Amumu Build Guide

Overview

If you’ve got a sick sense of humor like me, then you may also find it funny that a large part of Amumu’s schtick is that he has no friends. Listen, buddy, maybe if you weren’t a cursed mummy, you’d have more friends… Luckily for him, though, he has plenty of friends on Summoner’s Rift, as he’s one of the best junglers in the game at setting up fights for his team. Keys to Remember About Amumu

  1. Amumu is a champion that wants to team fight, which means you want to pick him into a team fighting composition. You also generally need lanes with some priority early so that you don't get bullied out of your own jungle (or if you can pick him in a spot where the enemy jungler is also weak early).

  2. Curse of the Sad Mummy [R] is a great montage reel generator, and you will definitely remember moments where you're able to hit 4 or 5 enemies, but late game, it can be enough to hit just 1 or 2 enemies if they're completely out of position or if they're key targets. Don't always chase for the big wombo combo!

Strengths

Curse of the Sad Mummy [R] is one of the strongest ultimates in the game thanks to being a wide AOE stun and also being extremely easy to use. Any champion that is good in team fights is always going to be a welcome addition for your team, and Amumu is able to easily start fights with his ultimate thanks to having two charges of Bandage Toss [Q] that allow him to easily find his way into the action. Despair [W] and Tantrum [E] offer solid damage and are his primary clearing tools in the jungle -- overall he has an extremely straightforward kit that any jungler can pick up and find value with.

Weaknesses

He has historically had a weak early game, which means you have to be careful about picking him into enemy junglers with good potential to invade you. You are not likely to win the 1v1 fights and may be forced to give up some of your camps. You can defend this with defensive wards in your own jungle, but that could expose your lanes to ganks. His own gank potential isn’t terrible early thanks to Bandage Toss [Q] but it’s best to farm and push for level 6 so you can guarantee yourself an advantage if more enemies show up. And once he uses his Curse of the Sad Mummy [R], he won’t have much else. You just kind of have to hope that it was enough for your team to win the fight.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Farming and try to rush for level 6. You can afford to gank enemies who overextend but it’s not wise to spend too much time looking for kills until you get your ultimate online, at which point you should be looking to gank every time it is up.

  2. Mid Game: You’ll have great team fighting presence and should look to contest neutral objectives with your ultimate up -- if you’re able to land your ult on three or more enemies, that can often be enough to win the fight.

  3. Late Game: Plan doesn’t change much from mid game, though enemies will find it easier to burst you down at this point. It can be enough to use your ultimate on one or two enemies if it’s a guaranteed pick to secure yourself a 5v4 advantage.
