Dr. Mundo Build Guide

Dr. Mundo Build Guide

Overview

Mundo goes where he pleases! Especially late game, when he becomes one of the hardest champions in the game to kill, especially if your team isn’t building any sort of anti-healing against him or if you don’t have any percent-health based damage. He’s an absolute menace once he gets rolling and will be difficult for all but the strongest single-target DPS champions in the game to burst through. Keys to Remember About Dr. Mundo

  1. Dr. Mundo has a lot of deceptive tankiness thanks to how much he's able to heal, especially over the course of Maximum Dosage [R] -- this can be a great tool to baiting enemies into overextending, but it will require you to understand your own limits as you take risks to lure them in.

  2. Mundo is also going to do much better into teams that don't naturally have grievous wounds or percent-HP based damage -- as you play him more, you'll learn which champions to avoid, including Kled, Gwen, and Vayne. You can check a full list of counters here.

Strengths

If his Maximum Dosage [R] is up and the enemy team is lacking any way to counteract his healing, then he can effectively have thousands upon thousands of extra HP to his name. One of the keys to Mundo is knowing exactly how far you can push your limits, as it can often be a statcheck for enemy teams on whether or not they have the DPS to burst him down before he gains another healing tick. He’ll need time to scale to reach that level of survivability, but he can farm fairly safely early on thanks to Infected Bonesaw [Q], which will also double as a way to chunk out and set up ganks for your team. Late game, he can offer extra damage if needed if you build Titan’s and look to jump on enemy back liners.

Weaknesses

Champions with percent-health based damage abilities or attacks can greatly disrupt him -- as he typically stacks a ton of health, he ends up taking significantly more damage against those champions. And when that’s combined with grievous wounds, his ability to heal up will also be greatly impacted and turn him into a giant, squishy ball for teams to burst down. Mundo is fairly straight forward otherwise, but you will need to consistently land Infected Bonesaw [Q] if you don’t want to watch your health bar disappear for nothing. And, ultimately, he is a champion that either must run at you or away from you -- there are not too many tricks to it, so proper CC can either keep him at bay or help you kill him altogether.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: He needs time to ramp up, so look to play safely early. You can find some solid trades thanks to your Infected Bonesaw [Q], but it’s difficult to find solo kills without the opponent fully committing to it.

  2. Mid Game: You want to be able to weave in and then out depending on how much healing your ultimate provides. Unfortunately, you lack ways to lock enemies down, so they can often shoot at you unchecked without giving you much room to breathe.

  3. Late Game: Continue to play like you did mid-game, though you should have good split pressure as you can often draw multiple enemies and still make it out alive.
