Rammus Build Guide

Rammus Build Guide

Overview

Need a jungler? Ok. Need someone very fast? Ok. Need someone who doesn’t talk very much? Ok. That’s Rammus. The little armadillo speeds around the rift in ball form like Sonic the Hedgehog himself, and he can be extremely obnoxious for enemies to deal with as he can constantly find ganks on them. If you just want to fight, then Rammus is a great pick for forcing the issue. Click here for the latest data on his best builds, including Runes, Items, Summoner Spells, and more.

Keys to Remember About Rammus

  1. Ok. Just say Ok. If you remain committed to the bit about being a Rammus one-trick, it might encourage your teammates to play better. It might also loosen up tension. More seriously, though, Rammus is a champion that does say ok a lot in that he will always agree to fight. He's a strong ganker and should always look for opportunities to catch out opponents when his Powerball [Q] is ready.

  2. Rammus a monster into AD heavy teams, which means if you're able to pick late in the draft and the enemy is showing AD champions in their solo lanes (and has an ADC), just by virtue of having a Rammus can greatly increase your odds of winning the game.

Strengths

Rammus’ early ganks can be extremely strong if enemies step even a little too far forward thanks to how quickly he can show up with Powerball [Q]. It’s especially dangerous if he’s allowed to run up behind them, as he can instantly follow-up any flashes with a flash into Frenzying Taunt [E] of his own to keep them locked and likely dead. Rammus also scales well with armor thanks to Spiked Shell [P] and Defensive Ball Curl [W] reflecting damage -- this means enemy team comps who are light on AP damage are extremely easy for him to play into. And once level 6 comes around, Soaring Slam [R] will help ensure that any time he shows up to your lane, enemies will either be dying or forced to use summoner spells.

Weaknesses

A lot of his power is tied to his speed and defenses, which means his jungle clear is going to be relatively slow, even if he won’t take too much damage from it. That means if his ganks don’t convert into kills, then he may quickly find himself at a disadvantage compared to enemy junglers who can more easily focus on farming and clearing. Ganks are also reliant on his allies to be the primary damage dealer -- he can lock them down, but someone else will generally need to deal the finishing blows. Rammus is also going to struggle more into AP champions -- especially longer range mages who can also lock him in place to disrupt his Powerball [Q].

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Do your basic clears and then look to gank as much as possible. Your biggest advantage is that you can apply a ton of lane pressure as early as level 2, so make sure you show up and show up often.

  2. Mid Game: You should still be looking for fights -- you are going to be very tanky at this point in the game, especially against AD champions, so aim to force the issue.

  3. Late Game: Late game, enemies can sometimes just kill themselves trying to attack you. Your whole goal is to just disrupt them and lock them down to allow your allies to kill whatever is in front of them. You also have great pick potential, so be on the lookout for enemies rotating in bad positions.
