Overview
One of the first rules you’ll learn from friends who are trying to teach you how to play League of Legends is that you should never (and we mean never) chase Singed. He’s a champion with a fairly unique play style in top lane in that he’s one of the first champions that popularized the proxy farm strategy. He’s a champion with a fairly weird identity to a team, but the uniqueness should be a draw for players who want to be as annoying as possible (in game, of course). Keys to Remember About Singed
Singed is best when he can draw pressure to his lane -- this means your learning curve is going to involve some deaths, but that doesn't mean your deaths don't matter. Do your best to stay alive even when you fall behind.
Late game, there's very little enemies can do about you if you wait out their CC cycle and know their Flash is down -- you just run at their key targets and use Fling [E] and more often than not, it's a kill for your team. You want to do this when the enemy team hasn't fully grouped yet.
Strengths
He can change the way the game is played because of the way he farms and the way he plays the game -- proxy farming will naturally draw enemy attention to him as he cuts off the minion wave deep in enemy territory. Singed players will sometimes walk straight into the enemy base and farm there, though that’s typically more of a style move than an actually sound play. As the game progresses, he has the ability to just run at enemies with Insanity Potion [R] and go for a Fling [E] -- it’s a lot of unexpected damage that can help your team catch out key targets. Ultimately, though, if he’s able to draw enemy pressure towards him and then escape from it -- that’s the hallmark of a good Singed.
Weaknesses
Because his whole game plan revolves around running, if you’re able to take out his legs and root him in place, then that’s going to severely limit his abilities. And there isn’t much he can do about it -- this means he’s a much stronger pick into teams with lower amounts of CC (though, to be fair, most champions are). Singed also doesn’t really want to ever group up with his team, which means if your team loses early dragons, that can potentially force you to group to prevent them from stacking a dragon soul. And if you are not careful, playing aggressively or proxy farming can sometimes just lead to free kills for enemies.
Game Plan
Early Game: Farm minions. That’s your entire goal. You can look to proxy the wave between the T1 and T2 turrets if you have good idea of where the enemy jungler is -- this is something that will take some time to master as you learn your limits.
Mid Game: At this point, proxying is much safer, and you should constantly be applying side lane pressure to draw enemies to you as much as possible. Only group for key objectives -- your job there is to absorb damage without dying.
Late Game: You can apply a lot of pressure on side lanes still and then look to group -- you have a lot of pick potential as you become harder to kill and can just run at enemies to Fling [E] them.
