Waylay VALORANT Guide

Waylay VALORANT Guide

Overview

If you’ve ever regretted going onto site as a duelist, then Waylay may be the agent for you. She can doubleback from where she came from faster than you can feel regret (this is not a challenge). Waylay has some extremely unique angles she can enter site from thanks to her ability to dash twice and because she can go vertically with those dashes -- with some creativity, you’ll even be able to drop down on enemies from above.

Role: Duelist

Duelists are the primary entry agent for your team.

On defense, they look to hold early angles opponents might peek from to get information, or they may work with your team’s initiators to make aggressive plays on defense. They also are the ones most likely to push through an opening to find a flank.

On attack, they are expected to be the first person to break an angle. Many duelists come equipped with tools that enable this, which means duelists are usually the agents who will see the most gun fights throughout the course of a game.

Tips and Tricks

  • Most of Waylay’s plays are going to be centered around Light Speed [Q], which can launch her forward up to two times. The general play with this is to try to dash twice onto elevated terrain.

  • If you find yourself under fire or under threat of dying as you enter site, you can easily press Refract [E] to return to where you began, which means the initial entry can be used to gather information if you have reliable followup entry options.

  • One way to make it easier to enter is to use Saturate [C] to clear an angle -- you can either dash to an angle or reliably ignore it as a threat as you enter.

  • Light Speed [Q] is also great at taking forward space -- especially on sites with a vertical defender location (such as A Heaven on Haven). It can help you catch enemies off guard as they rotate over to help with defense.

  • Refract [E] can be used separately from Light Speed [Q] to give you a second entry option -- so long as you can quickly blink back before you die.

  • Convergent Paths [X] can lock enemies in place or force them off angles -- if you’re able to land it, it’s easy to follow up with Light Speed [Q] to secure the kill. In general, though, it’s used to clear one side of a site as you focus on the other while initiating a site take.
